This stylish house is named after the olive groves which make up part of its surrounding 15 acres. The salonenque variety is prized both for its oil and the high-quality table olives, which you will have plenty of opportunity to sample locally.

Flanked by rocky outcrops and olive groves, the house is set in a classic Provençal landscape, with panoramic views across the peaceful Vallée des Baux. Built in keeping with traditional style, it sits unobtrusively at the foot of the Alpilles Mountains. Its relative newness means that the house is also designed very much for comfort, furnished with the care and attention normally reserved for a permanent home. With extras such as a sauna, hamam and heating all provided, you could enjoy a really indulgent stay here with friends or family even in early or late season, when the nights may be cooler, but the days are still long and bathed in mild southern sunshine.

The villa is equally glorious in summer with a choice of terraces for sun and shade and a very large swimming pool. You can fill the poolhouse fridge with ice creams for the little ones and local wines for the adults and dedicate yourself to the fine art of total relaxation. And, once you feel suitably refreshed, many of the natural and cultural attractions of southern Provence are within easy reach, including spectacular Les Baux, Roman Arles and the famous pont and papal palace of Avignon. Mouriès, just 3km away, has shops, supermarkets and five restaurants, while wider choice is available in St-Rémy-de-Provence, 14km away. The sandy beaches at Ste-Maries-de-la-Mer are about an hour by car.

The local area

The property is located in a wonderful area for exploring the very south of Provence close to the Camargue, near Les Baux and Les Alpilles. Arles and Avignon are also nearby.

Perched on the northern tip of the Camargue is the historic Roman provençal capital of Arles, with its 1st-century amphitheatre and théâtre antique. Van Gogh came to Arles in 1888 and was inspired by the town and its light, producing many of his greatest works until madness overtook him. St-Rémy-de-Provence, where Van Gogh was hospitalised, was built on the site of the Greco-Roman city of Glanum, fascinating vestiges of which are still in evidence. The twisted limestone landscapes of the nearby Parc des Alpilles rise dramatically from the Rhône plain, and from their hilltop stronghold the quarrelsome lords of Les Baux-de-Provence dominated the region for several centuries. The ruined castle atop the village offers spectacular views over the Alpilles.
