The name of this new (2024) and rather chic little house translates from Greek as ‘forest land’, which is a spot-on description for its charming and peaceful location near Lakka at the northern tip of the island. The cottage is built from the beautiful, honey-hued stone that’s so typical of Paxos, lending a timeless and traditional feel. Once inside however, you’ll find a tastefully modern and spacious home that’s ideal for a couple or a smaller family.

Elionas Cottage feels nicely tucked away, but there are sea views through the trees and when you feel like a meal out or a few hours at the beach, Lakka and the sea are just a five-minute drive or a 15 to 20-minute walk away. It takes a little longer on the uphill return, and if you enjoy walking then this is a wonderful base from which to wander the narrow lanes or explore the coastal paths that lead enticingly to one breath-taking view after another. And when you spot your dream secluded cove from the path, all you need to do is pop down to the local harbour, pick up a picnic and hire a boat to take you there for the perfect Paxos day out. With your own pristine pool, a generous terrace and the promise of glorious west coast sunsets, this is also a prime spot to relax and spend a week or two of not doing very much at all.

Barely eight miles from tip to tail, Paxos is pint-sized perfection. The only way to get here is by boat from Corfu, which rules out mass development and makes room for a true luxury villa holiday experience. Beloved by the boating crowd, there's a definite buzz in the main summer months and an excellent choice of restaurants that cater for visiting flotilla.

There are few better ways of relaxing than on a luxury holiday in Paxos, where days fill up beautifully with sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling and dining in style, the sea just metres from your table.
