Surround yourself with all things Tuscan in this lovely apartment, one of several set within a beautifully restored stone house in the 15th-century hamlet of Bricciano, near Barbischio. Casetta Carina occupies the east and south sides of the ancient building and is a bright, airy, contemporary place to stay with views across olive groves and vineyards, as well as the native forest of the Chianti countryside.

Recently renovated, its centuries-old timbered ceilings are complemented by the latest fixtures and fittings, a charming meeting of history and contemporary styling. You’ll find everything you need, including an open-plan kitchen and dining area, and, with all the necessary gadgets, you can create your own version of hearty Tuscan dishes to enjoy al fresco on the balcony.

The apartment has a master double bedroom, overlooking the lovely countryside, and a single bedroom, making it a perfect retreat for couples and small families. About 60m away, down a small country track, is a magnificent 18m saltwater swimming pool with panoramic views across to the distant hilltop hamlet of Castagnoli. The pool is in a secluded spot and very private – ideal for early morning lengths or cooling off in the heat of the day – with a gazebo nearby for welcome shade.

The owners of Casetta Carina hail from Canada and Puglia and live in a renovated stone barn nearby. When in residence they will be more than happy to advise on the best walking, biking and driving routes, places to eat and sights worth seeing.

The local area

Cassetta Carina is the perfect base from which to explore the rich Chianti countryside, as well as the historic towns of Siena, Arrezzo and Florence. However, for groceries, cafés, wine bars, ice cream and lovely restaurants, the village of Gaiole is just a ten-minute drive away.

The surrounding area abounds with castles and monasteries, while many of the best producers of Chianti Classico can be found nearby. The charming medieval towns of Radda in Chianti, Panzano and Castellina are all within a 30-minute drive, while Siena, with its must-see Duomo, museums and twice-yearly, white-knuckle Palio horse race, is an accessible 33km.

We had a lovely stay here - everything was spotless and we were well provisioned by our delightful hosts. A well-equipped property with a beautiful pool, also spotless. Having travelled from London in an electric car, we were delighted to find an easy to use, fast charge in Radda in Chianti. This was a favourite town for us.

The Robbins, June 2024

What a fabulous time we had at Casetta Carina! The apartment was spotless and had everything and more that is required for a week's holiday. Brett & Licia were wonderful hosts and helped us with inside information on the location, restaurants, etc. They were also extremely helpful when booking restaurants. Days out to Radda, Greve, Monteriggioni and Pienza were all great. We hunted down some of the locations used in 'Gladiator' around Pienza and Val d'Orcia - fabulous, if you watched/loved it! Thanks again for a wonderful week!

Emma & Stephen, June 2024

Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful property. Everything was so clean and immaculate. We have had the best time tasking wine and eating out & about.

James & Emily, June 2024

A lovely stay at Casetta Carina. Brett (the owner) is lovely and is there if you need him but lets you be by yourself if that is what you prefer. Amanda (the rep) is always on hand if you need bookings or recommendations. The villa is ideally placed to explore a lot of the little villages and towns of Chianti. It also has a couple of really nice restaurants which are only a walk of 15 mins. The pool is stunning, beds incredibly comfortable and overall it is done to a very good standard. The villa is set in a small hamlet so you do have some neighbours, but they were far enough away not to ever be a bother if you want peace and quiet!

Alistair Burns, July 2023

A really wonderful week partly thanks to our base here – the villa and surroundings couldn’t have been better. We were very pleased to have visited the sculpture park – a really beautiful place and enjoyable walk.

Ash, Joanna & Yolanda, October 2019

We had a wonderful week in this beautiful part of Tuscany. The apartment is very comfortable and well equipped. The pool was fantastic and we enjoyed relaxing there after our trips further afield. We can recommend Siena – so much to see that we made two visits. San Gimignano – set off early – we had a lovely peaceful morning before most of the other tourists arrived. This will not be our last visit to Tuscany – we hope!

Barbara & Trevor, September 2019

We enjoyed a fantastic two weeks here. Brett’s hospitality and recommendations were spot on. Day trip to Siena was great but parking is tough as we went on a Wednesday (market day). Had a fantastic pizza with a brilliant view of Siena off the beaten track at Il Pomodorino – was so worth finding it snaking through the streets as we got the best view of Siena from there. Thank you Brett for an awesome couple of weeks!

Andrew, Sophie & Maggie, August 2019

What a superb first (and not last!) trip to Tuscany. The apartment has been great, we have loved the pool! We’ve explored Gaiole, Radda, Siena, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni and Florence. Drive to Montevarchi and take the train to Florence – free parking and a quick, easy train ride. Loads of great food, wine and exploring. Thank you.

Matt & Charlotte, August 2019

Our stay has been incredible and just what we needed. Brett welcomed us late Saturday afternoon and within 20 minutes we were relaxing by the pool with beautiful sunshine. The apartment is so comfortable and loved eating on the terrace. One highlight was Montepulciano – the most beautiful hilltop town I have ever seen. It’s about a 90min drive but well worth the visit and if you can have the breakfast on the terrace at Caffe Policiano – great views and great price.

Simpson Travellers, July 2019

Lovely relaxing week.

Clive & Gillian, June 2019

Our last day of a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The weather has been splendid and we have really enjoyed life outdoors for two whole weeks of sunshine. We have been very comfortable at Casetta Carina and have made daily use of the pool – so refreshing and necessary. We have made many visits – Siena is spectacular and Il Duomo, absolutely stunning. Our favourite small town was undoubtedly Castellina in Chianti. We have relished some excellent food but particularly recommend Il Papavero in Barbischio. It has several advantages – it’s the nearest, the food is simple and delicious and the staff are so welcoming and hospitable. A memorable and, we hope, beneficial holiday!

Peter & Jean, June 2019

Casetta Carina is very comfortable, well equipped and of a high standard. The views of the valley from the balcony are beautiful. We had a wonderful week. There were so many lovely Chianti hill towns to visit within easy reach. Overall it’s a great place and location.

Mr René, September 2018

A wonderful holiday! We were well looked after by the Simpson Travel team, who had planned everything so our holiday ran perfectly smoothly – from picking up the car to finding wonderful restaurants. Casetta Carina was clean and comfortable with an incredible pool. Thank you Simpson Travel, we'll definitely use you again!

R Oliver, August 2018

Casetta Carina near Gaiole in Chianti was a little piece of paradise in Tuscany. The perfect place to relax and get away from it all. There are not many villas available for couples or small groups so it was great to find this place with its tranquil surroundings and wonderful views. The pool has a stunning location and was a highlight of the holiday. Brett and Holly who live on site were very helpful and they gave great advice about where to visit and eat. Sienna is about a 40-minute drive away and Florence is easily accessible by train. Gaiole is very close by and is a charming place and a magnet for cyclists so take your riding gear if you are a keen cyclist as bike hire is easy . We also stopped off at the vineyard at the edge of the property and were given a wine tasting of the famous Chianti Classico! What's not to like! The property is very well equipped and you don't need a TV with a view like the one we had to enjoy.  We also loved watching the swifts perform their regular flying displays and we even spotted two wild boar who came to eat the fallen mulberries!

Mr and Mrs Livingstone, June 2017

We had a wonderful week at Casetta Carina. The house and facilities were up to the high standards described. The views and pool were absolutely stunning, and we spent much of the week relaxing by the pool and on the terrace. The house book had some good recommendations for things to do and see. The entry on Sienna was particularly helpful in terms of finding parking (at the football stadium) and a great restaurant just behind the main square. The road to the cottage is challenging (and we are experienced Italian travellers), and the location is rather remote (but the owners are next door). However, this is the trade-off for the tranquillity and views which you experience. Thanks again to everyone for another fantastic holiday.

Mrs Schwieger, September 2015

We have been charmed by the beauty of the house and of the region and we have benefited from the tranquil surroundings. You have a real piece of paradise!

Mrs Johnson, June 2014

Casetta Carina was wonderful, the whole experience was smooth and well organised. Holly and Luca were attentive but gave our family privacy. Casetta Carina is very beautiful, the pool is fantastic and the accommodation first rate. Thank you, a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

Mrs Fryer, August 2012

We had an absolutely fabulous time. Brett and Eve are great people to talk to about the area and they have a little book in the house which has all the necessary info which helped us a lot. The villa is beautiful on a beautiful farm overlooking a Chianti valley. It is just wow. The swimming pool is glorious and beautiful, also overlooking the valley and very secluded, which is great. We had many great meals on the patio, with beautiful views. Even the rooms overlook the valley and the house is nice and spacious and well equipped. We do not have one complaint about our accommodation. It was 10 out of 10..

Mrs Hodgson, September 2011

Finding somewhere to wow parents and kids ranging from 13 to 4 is a big ask – believe me! Casetta Carina did just that! None of us wanted to leave the gorgeous, comfortable house or the warm and welcoming little bit of Tuscany. Brett is a great host and was instrumental in planning my 'significant' birthday celebrations! I spent the night of my birthday swimming under a Tuscan moon in the underwater lit pool. Perfect!

Ronan, Czarina and kids, August 2011

Our family of four adults was thrilled with Casetta Carina. The house, grounds and pool were lovely and the views were spectacular – just as pictured on your website and better. But once there we were in paradise. The location was perfect for exploring the surrounding villages and countryside. All in all we had a wonderful experience.

Mrs Barresi, May 2011

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casetta Carina. Words cannot justifiably describe just how beautiful this place and its owners really are. The place, not only lovely, comfortable and homely, is a little piece of paradise and an enjoyable and relaxing home away from home. Thank you for your hospitality and chats, not only very helpful but very much enjoyed. Also very helpful were your restaurant recommendations and tips on how to get to places and market days. We look forward to visiting you in the future. House and surroundings speak for themselves. It’s been a joy to get to know you, and thank you so much for sharing your local expertise.

Gina, Lisa, Tom, Nadia, and Joseph, September 2010

The accommodation was first class and Brett could not have been any more helpful. All of Brett’s advice on trips and eating places were spot on. The ambiance and the secluded location made for a perfect Tuscany adventure.

Mrs Dorothy, June 2010

Absolutely fabulous house, very well equipped and charming and very helpful owners. We were travelling with a baby and really appreciated how comfortable and clean the house was. Thanks for arranging a wonderful holiday!

Mrs Dixon, May 2009

Our feedback for Casetta Carina in Gaiole is very good. The standard of the accommodation was very good and the location, aspect and size of the pool were incredible. The host had also gone to some trouble to provide a cot (with a very comfortable mattress) and a high chair – which were very useful. In any case, we had a great time – thanks for your help in organising our stay and please pass on our thanks to the owner.

Tom & Leila, November 2008
