Newly built yet with an abundance of Provençal charm thanks to its location on the outskirts of Villedieu village, this beautifully finished house is just the sort of place we know that Simpson Travellers love. Both practical and stylish, with a sprinkling of vintage pieces alongside shiny new en-suites and a very well-equipped kitchen, it’s the perfect Provence bolthole for couples or a smaller family.
Maison de Villedieu sits in a 2,000m2 plot with its own pool, terrace and garden to the rear of the house. With a classic French backdrop of vineyards just over the wall at the bottom of the garden, you could happily spend all day (or all week) here, flitting between the heated swimming pool and the covered dining terrace as the sunshine dictates. For those keen to see the sights there are iconic towns and cities within an hour to an hour and a half’s drive, but perhaps the greatest pleasure of all is strolling just five minutes into Villedieu for a leisurely meal in the village square, shaded by plane trees in a scene straight out of a Pagnol movie.
Local area
Villedieu is a sleepy place where the majority of village houses are still permanent homes rather than holiday lets, with a café, two restaurants and a small grocery store offering everything you need day to day. There are narrow streets and the remnants of the village’s old defensive ramparts to explore, with views over the vineyards that stretch out in every direction. The nearest supermarket is in Tulette or Vaison-la-Romaine, the latter being the historic heart of the northern Vaucluse region. Vaison today (12 minutes by car) is well worth a visit for its extensive Romain remains, museums and markets, and we recommend taking your time to tour this quietly understated landscape, dominated by the mighty bulk of Mont Ventoux and dotted with small villages, each with its own individual charm. Avignon (an hour by car) is the present day capital of Vaucluse, with a vibrant cultural life as well as its celebrated medieval bridge and centre. For river bathing, you can drive out to the Pont Roman d’Entrechaux (20mins) or Les Gorges du Toulourenc (35mins).

This lovely little brand-new villa has stunning views, is a perfect Provence location and lacks for nothing. 5 minutes gentle walk to the prettiest village square you could wish for, with 3 amazing eateries and bags of charm...
Maison Villedieu is a clean, modern house on the edge of a small picturesque village with a garden overlooking a vineyard. It’s well situated as it’s close to Vaison la Romaine and not far from Avignon. Would highly recommend and we had a fantastic holiday.
This is our 5th Simpson holiday and once again it has not disappointed. Maison de Villedieu is a great villa, brand new, beautifully designed and very peaceful! When we ate out it was in Vaison la Romaine, 10 mins away, lots of choices and quite lively compared to Villedieu. We visited the local vineyard and sampled their wines, which were excellent. Went on a day trip to Avignon, beautiful city. Spent an afternoon by the river/waterfall at Pont Romain Oureze which was very picturesque. Overall a lovely relaxing week spent reading, swimming, chatting, eating, boules, drinking and making important family memories. Thank you.
Our choice of French properties is diverse, ranging from simple charm to genuine luxury and style. Much of our portfolio is privately owned, and price alone is therefore not a universal guide. We contract all our accommodation in person, and each property has its individual appeal.
To help you make the right choice based on your own priorities, we have devised a simple grading guide to be considered in conjunction with each individual property description, awarding up to a maximum of five stars for the below categories.

There's no better way to while away leisurely holiday hours than by visiting the many Provençal villages with their cobbled streets and cafes. Hilltop towns glow in pale golden stone, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and fields of fragrant purple lavender. From celebrated Gordes to charming Eygalières, each town has a market to help you discover local produce, or treat yourself to a long lazy lunch; from pavement cafes to Michelin stars, the midday meal in France is nothing short of an art form.
The cities of Avignon, Orange, Nîmes and Arles offer an architecturally rich and cultural day out but try to make time for lesser-known gems like Vaison la Romaine, Uzès and Ile sur la Sorgue for a less crowded but equally impressive picture of the history of the region.
A day at the beach is always an option but you can find other open water options closer to home, from child-friendly paddling in the River Gardon below le Pont du Gard, to kayaking down La Sorgue as it winds its way through the Luberon. Close to Avignon, Lac de Monteux has a lifeguarded beach and various water activities for all ages.
This is a destination to rival any other. Complemented by our selection of handpicked villas we can help you make the most of your luxury holiday in Provence.
