Villa Vigna Maggiore is one of five charming villas on the hillside adjacent to the ancient village of Olmeto: tranquil and picturesque with its terracotta rooftops, slopes cascading down to the unspoilt beaches of the Valinco Gulf – the area is a walker's paradise.

Each property benefits from its own private swimming pool cleverly designed to provide privacy and the most spectacular of views, whether barbecuing al fresco or enjoying the peacefulness of the terraces. The interior open-plan layout and bright décor combine to create a light and airy feel, while the furnishings are a stylish but unfussy blend of contemporary and traditional – from rattan and wicker to the chunky wood dining table. Whether in the kitchen or the sitting room, Villa Vigna Maggiore, Villa Doniche, Villa A Murta, Villa Vista and Villa l'Alta all come fully equipped, while the local beaches, shops and restaurants are just a short drive away.

Please note:

The pool area for Villa Vigna Maggiore is located via steps on a raised level behind the villa.

Customer feedback  Great place to stay! We had problems with the last couple of directions but once there were extremely pleased with the villa and it's fantastic views over the bay! The owners had even thought of providing beach umbrellas and a cool box!! Overall excellent place to stay as a base to the local coves and beaches or just to chill out by the villas pool.

Chu Tai, June 2022

Gorgeous sunny week – almost too hot until we realised there is a portable beach umbrella in the cupboard! Highlight was a boat trip around the Valinco Gulf including a swim with the fish. Snorkelling equipment from the local supermarket much appreciated. Bliss! Our favourite beach was Cupabaia – we had a fantastic time snorkelling around the rocks at the end of the beach. Inland, Olmeto is very close and well worth a visit, and there is a pizzeria with fab views across the valley.

The Beedle family, July 2019

The villa was in a good location, with a great view and pool terrace with outdoor shower.

Mrs Neuff, July 2019

Our return to Corsica after 26 years and first time to the Valinco – we really liked the fantastic view of the bay from this villa and Ant started watercolour painting again to try and capture this. The pool was cool as to be expected in mid-May. The new Simpson rep was helpful in sorting out a few glitches including leaking kettle! Filitosa – really enjoyed this Neolithic outdoor walk. Campomoro – lots of steps, great view from the top of the river. We recommend La Crique for evening meal – great view of bay. La Source for evening meal – very relaxed and friendly. Wooden ‘shack’ on way to Cucuruzzu – excellent omelette and view.

Anthony & Philippa, May 2019

Beautiful island, beautiful Vigna Maggiore, beautiful views and amazing service.

Miss Eastley, September 2018

This is a splendid house in an excellent location. We enjoyed the views over Col de Saint-Eustache between Petreto-Bicchisano and Aullène. It’s also easy to find an assortment of walking routes in the hills around Aullène, Quenza, Sainte-Lucie-de-Tallano which are very clearly marked yet virtually deserted and a good way to work up an appetite for lunch in any of the little restaurants in the area. We first came here nearly 30 years ago and although we try other places, we seem to keep returning over the years.

Mary & Matthew, July 2018

We had a fantastic week on our first trip to Corsica. We didn’t really know what to expect, but we weren’t disappointed! Once you’ve negotiated the steep incline/decline the views from the villa are well worth it. The weather has been hot all week and the cool pool was a relief. The children loved it, lilos and all. We even had a pool party (apologies to the neighbours!). Really so much to do. We’ll definitely be back.

Ishanthi, Mark, Mile & Thomas, July 2018

Very relaxing week in a peaceful location. Villa comfortable and well equipped and private. We visited some beautiful beaches – Campomoro, Porto Pollo and Cupabia.

Mike & Mary, October 2017

A wonderful week and must have lucked out on all fronts. The weather was superb, restaurant choices excellent, fabulous trips to the beaches including those at Porto Pollo, Cupabia and Campomoro. Many thanks to Simpson Travel for their behind-the-scenes organisation and to Zena for her guidance and advice.

John & Chris, September 2017

Thank you for our holiday. We usually book everything independently but you did make it very easy for us. The person I spoke with to book the holiday, Holly, was excellent – really helpful and tailored things around us –  which I didn't know you could do. The welcome pack and text communication with Zena was great. There's nothing more frustrating than having to buy a whole box of dishwasher tablets – not the cost but the effort of the shopping too – so thought you made all of that really easy. It was a great spot to get to other places and explore more of beautiful Corsica and I would definitely use Simpson Travel again. Zena was very quick to help us out with a proper walking OS map and replaced a previously broken chopping board. The local Myrthe drink as a birthday treat was really appreciated too. So, thanks to all your staff that I dealt with, they were wonderful and I will definitely recommend.

Miss Keeble, September 2017

We had a lovely week in Villa Vigna Maggiore. The villa has some stunning views while also being secluded and equipped with everything we needed. We had a full week of sun with all days over 30 degrees and blue skies, so we really enjoyed the local beaches and the fabulous pool. We enjoyed a day trip to Bonifacio, there were plenty of impressive yachts moored up and the children soon decided which ones we should be saving up for. The old town is also interesting with plenty of shops and cafés to wander around. The week was rounded off by the Bastille Day fireworks in Propriano which we enjoyed from the villa terrace. Thank you Simpson Travel and Zena, for ensuring a great first trip to Corsica.

Tim, Nikki, William & Jessica, July 2017

We came to relax, go to the beach, swim in the Mediterranean, eat great food and visit great restaurants with sea views. Weather fine and hot, 10/10.

Mr & Mrs Francis, September 2016

Simpson Travel does exactly what they state they will do. The villa, the car and the flights were completely as detailed. The representative was very helpful and not at all a sales person. The choice of villas and the simplicity of booking with one company has made the experience so much easier. The villa was outstanding and the little details: the welcome pack, the pool towels, very accurate directions and advice on arrival – all made the holiday easier and more enjoyable. Thanks and we will be back.

Mr Mitchell, July 2016

Stephen and David, your reps in Figari were excellent – David was very helpful to reduce the pain of queuing for departure at Figari airport and Stephen gave some very useful recommendations on where to eat locally. Thank you all for organising such a relaxing fantastic holiday for a tired family of four – we are now back in the UK invigorated!Prof.

Oreffo, July 2016

Well set up villa, the cool box and coffee machine were much appreciated. So nice to have a full kitchen, have eaten well all week. Pool excellent, great view from above.

Dr Garle, September 2015

Lovely end of season holiday. Weather hot for first week, pleasantly warm for second. We appreciated all the facilities of the villa and the welcome pack was a delight! Thank you! Thanks also to Roberto, an excellent and charming representative.

Mr Heyes, September 2015

Our second holiday with Simpson Travel. We're delighted with their warmth and hospitality. Thank you!

Mr Marks, May 2015

We have had a wonderful week and a relaxing time too. Weather was better than expected so we had plenty of time lazing on the lovely pool deck. Sartène was worth a visit, very quaint with a lovely square in the centre. Recommend a boat trip from the harbour in Propriano. Full day trips seem to be best value. Also plenty of reasonably good places to eat in Propriano at various prices. Best place to park is by the church. We enjoyed visiting Campomoro with its gorgeous beach and we walked to the nearby lookout tower from there. Nearby Olmetto is worth a visit too – magnificent views down the valley from there. Have a lovely stay.

The Gulf of Valinco makes for an inspiring holiday destination – and not just for the wonderful beaches. Propriano is one of the oldest island resorts, its marina lined with cafés and restaurants. South lies Campomoro and, to the north, in the folds of the Taravo Valley, stand the menhirs of Filitosa. Inland, you’ll find the mountain villages of the Alta Rocca, below the Bavella Peaks. And don’t miss the ancient capital of the south, Sartène, a favourite with wine buffs.
