New builds have many advantages, but when it comes to sheer style, you really can’t beat Hossegor’s original 1930s villas, which were built to accommodate wealthy Parisians escaping south for a mild winter climate and healthy sea air. Villa du Tison is a fine example of the 1930s Art Deco style, beautifully preserved and fully updated to create an elegant and historic base in the heart of Hossegor. With its arched doors and windows, smooth white façade and herringbone parquet floors, the villa incorporates the clean lines, geometric shapes and simple symmetry that are the hallmarks of Art Deco, and it’s a look that has more than stood the test of time.

The huge benefit of properties of this vintage is that they occupy prime central spots, having had their pick of location when the town was in its infancy. This puts you within a mere minute’s walk of Hossegor’s many cafes, shops and restaurants, and a comfortable stroll from the lake and the beach. It’s an unbeatable base for your freedom-seeking teenagers, who can come and go as they please, and with several surf schools to choose from and a golf course just a five-minute walk away, there’s plenty to do to keep everyone happily occupied.

The villa is set back behind electric gates a few metres from the road (20kmph speed limit), and is further cocooned from the town centre bustle by its enclosed, mature garden, with a secluded patio, private pool and immaculate lawns to the rear of the house. Whilst Villa du Tison does not have the tranquillity of some of our other more rural houses, we feel that the opportunity to stay in such a remarkably central and stylish property with so much on the doorstep more than compensates for this.

Just a short journey away, Capbreton beckons with its bustling daily fish market and marina restaurants, providing an authentically French seaside experience where you can sample the catch of the day alongside the locals.

For those looking to explore further, the charming city of Bayonne is only a half-hour drive away. Renowned for its fine chocolate and cured hams, it’s a must-visit for food lovers. A little further south, world-famous Biarritz awaits with its blend of Belle Époque glamour, elegant eateries, and chic boutiques. Delve deeper into the Basque Country to discover picturesque hillside villages and a rich cultural heritage.
